Smash & Scrap

I've been rediscovering old hobbies like scrapbooking and smash books. I found some unfinished projects in the cupboard: A scrapbook album of our holiday to New Zealand in 2011, my first ever smash book, half-planned and barely started travel journals of our camping adventures on the Eyre Peninsula, and of my trip to Sydney in 2012.

I remember putting them away, thinking that I would return to them when I had more time, and then promptly forgot about them entirely. But it would be nice to finish them, and to start some new projects once they are done. I create a lot of scrap and smash book type things that always end up being sent to other people, but I've never actually finished a project for myself. How bizarre!

So, since I (in theory) have more time on my hands these days, I thought now would be the perfect opportunity to take the hobby back up, and as such, I've spent a fair portion of my weekend sorting through photos, keepsakes, card stock and embellishments, and searching ideas on Instagram, Pinterest and blogs.

Now I am just itching to get started!

Do you smash and/or scrap?

Sunday Blog Spot

It has become a Sunday tradition for me to sit and browse blogs. However, last weekend, in amongst the travels, the birthday and the long weekend, it didn't happen, so it's nice to be able to return to my routine again this week.

It's a quiet time for me, to just sit and relax, and read about what's happening in the lives of other people - some similar, some not. It's a great way to unwind before a busy week of work kicks off again.

This week I'm globetrotting, flying far, far away to:

A Postcrossing Adventure: Weeks 17 & 18

Remember how I said a few weeks back that the way in which Postcrossing issues cards didn't make much sense to me? Well, that is still very much the case. In the past month I have sent EIGHT cards, but received only ONE, which arrived a fortnight ago. There were no incoming cards in weeks 17 or 18 of my self-imposed challenge.

I've also had one card EXPIRE this fortnight, which was the Sydney postcard I sent to China (AU-330087) in Week 9. A card reaches "expiration" when it hasn't been registered by the intended recipient within 60 days of it being sent, either because it has been lost in the mail, or because the recipient has failed to register it in line with Postcrossing instructions.

Week 17

// outgoing:

Another TWO cards went out in week 17.
I sent a pretty free card (or ad card) to Taiwan (AU-341244), and a postcard of one of my photos of the Eyre Peninsula to India (AU-341245).

I find there are three countries to which my cards are most likely to expire: China, Russia, and India. Every card I've sent to India in the past has expired, so I don't harbour many hopes for this most recent one being registered either. It'll be a nice surprise if it is.

Week 18

I sent another TWO cards this week: Farming Australia cows went to Russia (AU-342311), whilst cook extraordinaire Stephanie Alexander is on her way to the USA (AU-342312).

Thirty-three.

This weekend in South Australia is a long weekend. That means I don't have to go into work tomorrow.

It is also my birthday: Today I turned 33 years old.

I slept in.
I got flowers and drank tea with family members.
I spent too many hours in front of the computer, and I read a book.

I like it quiet, simple and uneventful.

Happy birthday to me!

Sunday Blog Spot

Every Sunday afternoon, I browse blogs.

I catch up on those I follow, and go in search of new ones. It's a quiet time for me, to just sit and relax, and read about what's happening in the lives of other people - some similar, some not. It's a great way to unwind before a busy week of work kicks off again.

This week I'm admiring the cozy and pretty blogs belonging to:
